Guatemala I (San Lucas Tolimán)

Guatemala II (San Lucas Tolimán)

Guatemala is located in Central America with a beautiful terrain of volcanoes and mountains. Spanish is the main language all though many people speak a Mayan dialect also. San Lucas Tolimán is a town located in the highlands at the base of the Volcano Tolimán, and located on beautiful Lake Atitlán. The Parroquia in San Lucas has been working with the people of San Lucas for over 40 years; they have established a community led organization which has setup and runs the projects that benefit the community. The projects include working with reforestation, a fair trade coffee cooperative, a medical, dental, and eye clinic, buying land and building houses for the poor in the community and helping in the school of the Parroquia. The crew will work in several of these areas. The big project at this time is the building of a women's center that will be a place where women can gather to learn new skills and trade information with one another. They also plan to have a technical college that will be affiliated with the Dakota Community College in Minnesota.

Slovakia (Martin)

  • June 15- June 30, 2007

The Slovak landscape is noted primarily for its mountainous nature, extending across most of the northern half of the country; with many scenic lakes and valleys.

The official language is Slovak. Martin is located in northern Slovakia. The Bible School in Martin is the first of its kind in Slovakia. The Bible School offers many programs including Bible training, youth worker and teacher training, English as a Foreign language and they also operate the first Lutheran elementary school in Slovakia. The crew will be doing construction projects at the Bible School in the morning and working with elementary students each afternoon. There will also be day trips to scenic and historic sites in Slovakia.

Australia (Adelaide Area)

  • June 24- July 18, 2007

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia, located on the Southern Ocean. The official language of Australia is English. The largest part of Australia is desert; it is the driest inhabited continent, and the flattest. Only the south-east and south-west corners of the continent have a temperate climate. Australia is known for their host of marsupials, including the kangaroo, koala, wombat; and birds such as the emu, and kookaburra. In Australia the crew will work with a Youth Encounter community based ministry team that is doing young adult ministry. The crew will also be involved with surrounding churches and within the local community. There may be an opportunity to work with an Aboriginal mission too.

Tanzania (Northern Arusha Area)

  • June 24 – July 18, 2007
  • $3400

Tanzania is the Africa of one’s wildest dreams. This land of Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti plains is a home for over 30 million people, and prides itself on over 120 different ethnic groups. Although these groups speak different languages, they all speak Swahili and many speak English. The crew will work with Steve and Bethany Friberg. The work projects are still being planned. The crew will also have the opportunity to leaver about and visit some of the Maasai people.
