Global Work Crews FAQ
The mission of Global Work Crews is to build genuine relationships founded in God's love forged in the experience of cross-cultural living, working, and worshipping "side by side".
Q: What is the purpose of a short-term team?
A: Being part of a Global Work Crew is a great way to be exposed to God's beautiful creation around the world, a chance to experience a new culture, and an opportunity to grow as a world Christian.
Q: Where do the Global Work Crews go next?
A: In the spring of 2007 one crew will go to;
- Guatemala: March 30- April 7, $1300
In the summer of 2007 the crews will be going to;
- Australia, June 24-July 18
- Guatemala, June 24-July 18
- Slovakia, June 15-June 30
- Tanzania, June 24-July 18
In past years, crews have been to Bolivia, Ecuador, Estonia, Guatamala, India, Latvia, and Poland, Puerto Rico.
Q: How long are the trips?
A: In the recent past, Global Work Crews have been one month in length during the summer. The month is split into 3 parts:
- Training: Two days in Minneapolis/St Paul getting to know your crew through community building and also preparation for the culture you will visit.
- Overseas: Three weeks are spent in a country where we have been invited. We focus on learning and building relationships, our vehicle to do that is the work project that has been selected by the host community.
- Debriefing: The last two days are spent in a debriefing and reflection time. We end with a Closing Program to share with one another and friends and family.
However, shorter trips will be offered in 2007 that will be during the school year to make trips more available to students and adults. There will be trips offered in January and spring break.
Q: What would I do overseas?
A: The work project varies by location. In the past we have renovated health clinics, helped build a church, science lab, and orphanages. Crews have spent time painting, cleaning, covering huts, and planting trees. We come and do whatever project the community feels they need done. Every effort is made to have the nationals work "side by side" with us on the project.
In addition there is time to do site-seeing, visit hospitals, schools, and churches.
A huge part of the program is building relationships, so we spend time playing games with the children and youth, visiting people's homes, and singing and worshiping with the community.

Q: Can we go as a group?
A: You sure can! It is something that we call our Customized Crews. We can also help you plan if you have a specific location or contact in mind. You need to have a minimum of 10 people (8 youths and 2 adults) to make it work. If a group doesn't have adult leaders, we will provide leadership at the group's expense. Also we prefer that the group makes a commitment to Youth Encounter at least six months in advance.
Q: Are there positions for leadership?
A: Yes we are looking for adults (age 21+) to provide mature Christian leadership. For more details, please click here.

Q: Is it safe to travel overseas?
A: As an organization, we do our best to make sure that we find locations that are as safe as possible before sending out a crew. Moreover, we do keep in touch on a frequent basis with our partners in mission (hosts, other local contacts as well as the missionary communities) to ensure that we are informed of any changes as far as safety and security are conncerned - as soon as those changes occur. If we determine at any point in time that it is not safe, we do communicate to the crew and families before taking the next step (changing dates of the tour, changing locations/country of destination, or canceling the tour all together).
